When Did the Scouts Become Involved in the Palace Green Pavilion?

The Pavilion today is still fondly referred to as the Scout Hall. This is probably due to the fact Scout and Cub involvement has taken place here for the last 96 years. Further information on the early history is available under "20th Century" in the "History" section?

The photos below show the activities of the Berwick Scout groups in the 20th century. These photgraphs have been kindly provided by Joyce Landels, Graham Davison and Paul Marshall.

What are the Scouts Doing in the 21st Century?

As the 20th century drew to a close the condition of the Pavilion was a growing concern for 5th Berwick (Holy Trinity) Scouts. With advice and support from other local organisations, plans were developed for the repair and refurbishment of the building and to increase its use by turning it into a Community Hall. Unfortunately the Scouts and their supporters were unable to raise the significant capital sum required to move the project forward. This led, in November 2007, to the formation of the Palace Green Pavilion Trust (PGPT). The Trust, which is a registered charity, has the same aim; to refurbish the building and run it as a Community Hall.

The PGPT is actively involved in fundraising through local events and activities and by applying for relevant grants. The project is moving forward, although raising the capital sum required remains a significant challenge.
