What is the Palace Green Pavilion Trust?
With the building in need of significant repair and modernisation, the Palace Green Pavilion Trust (PGPT - a registered charity) was formed in November 2007. The aims of the PGPT are to raise funds to carry out the necessary refurbishment and to subsequently run the building and grounds as a Community Hall available to individuals or groups within the Berwick area. The PGPT has leased the premises from the Scout Association and is working closely with the 5th Berwick (Holy Trinity) Scouts. Fundraising is currently the primary activity of the PGPT.
Who is the PGPT?
The PGPT is made up of groups of volunteers who support different committees within the trust. The committees include the following:
-
Trustees
This committee of elected volunteers was set up in 2007 to secure funds and oversee the use of the building for the community's benefit.
-
Buildings Group
This sub-committee of trustees and architects meet to discuss planning and building developments.
Note: If you have time to spare and would like to participate as either a trustee or sub-committee member, please contact us.

What are PGPT's Plans for the Future?
Refurbishment plans submitted to the Council for planning permission and building regulation consent has been granted. In the recent economic climate (2007 - 2010), obtaining grants for major capital works has proven unsuccessful. In 2011, the Trustees reviewed the building plans and the Business Plan and progressed a more limited, piecemeal approach to repairing and improving the building. The current scheme is now £128,000, less than half the original scheme and gives the flexibility of undertaking separate phases when the funding becomes available.
In July 2011, the first phase of work was undertaken with a supporting grant from Northern Angel Fund; new toilets and doors were provided, with some structural repairs made to the external pillar.
