Welcome
The Palace Green Pavilion is a 19th century building with a delightful enclosed garden, situated in Berwick-upon-Tweed. Originally built as a Subscription Reading Room, it also provided a Bowling Green and Billiard Hall for the citizens of Berwick. Local Scout groups have used the Pavilion since 1914, however the building is in great need of refurbishment.
The Palace Green Pavilion is set at one end of a large garden area, with several mature trees, semi circular at one end, surrounded by a low stone wall and railings. The unique feature of the Pavilion is its setting. No similar building with a garden in the middle of a residential square exists between Edinburgh and Newcastle and no other example of such a mature green space and community centre combination is known.
The Palace Green Pavilion Trust (PGPT), a committee of elected volunteers, was set up in 2007 to secure funds, develop plans to refurbish the Pavilion and run it as a Community Hall. Sadly the PGPT have been unable to secure sufficient funds to fully progress these plans. Meetings are scheduled to update interested parties
on the termination of the lease between the PGPT and the Scout Association. Further information is detailed in section Events> 2012.
All current bookings are continuing and anyone interested in hiring the Pavilion's two Halls, please use the Contact Us page.
The Scout Association invites all current trustees and supporters to continue the work already undertaken with the refurbishment plans and run the Palace Green Pavilion as a community venture.
The PGPT trustees would like to thank everyone most sincerely for all the support given over the last four years.
